Ode to my bed

One thing I enjoy a lot is waking up slowly in my own bed.

I love how my body feels against the bed.
I really like the comfort and softness of it.
I am not a person for a hard bed!

I like checking in if I want to get up or stay in bed for a while.
I might check if I want to snooze a bit more or am I ready to wake up.

I might think of my stuff or stay in a little longer pondering on my dream – if I remember it (I often do).

Sometimes I just fall back asleep deciding nothing!

When I am more awake I like doing some stretches before getting up.
And then meeting Pete who is normally already up and downstairs here in Syvilla.
Most times my coffee is ready for me! ☕

If there are no calls or other program we tend to do 10-20 minutes of Qigong (our new interest!) and meditate in the mornings followed by breakfast with a dice game.

The breakfast entails cooked oatmeal most morning with lingonberries or blueberries I picked. I normally chop an apple into the porridge and add sunflower seeds, nuts or yoghurt, and lately also quark or cottage cheese.
And a bit of cinnamon on the top!
(writing this makes me hungry!)

Anyway… From my breakfast details back to my bed!

I looove my bed.
And the reason I am writing about it is I want to acknowledge how much pleasure a simple thing as my comfortable sweet bed brings me.

That I do not necessarily need anything complex or fancy to experience happiness.
And there are many things throughout the day I very much enjoy and feel content with.

Like the breakfast I mentioned.
The taste of the oatmeal and the warmth of it in my mouth and stomach.
I also like the knowledge that it is healthy and good for me and that I am treating myself well and taking time to cook breakfast rather than eat something fast.

I want to appreciate the things I have.
Notice them.
Not take ”little big things” for granted.

These ”little” things contribute actually a lot to my daily happiness.

Good coffee.
Sunshine. ☀️
Trees.
Reading my book.
Finding an exciting book in the library.
Having a fire in our fireplace in the living room and sitting nearby.
Hearing Pete say what he liked about the day.
Planning outings.
Eating or thinking about food. Also reading new recipes.
Watching movies.
Having sauna.
Being in the forest.
Being silent.

Another one ”small big thing” is seeing the birds in the bird feeders outside of our window (you might have heard about this before!).

This morning Pete and I saw a new species to our feeder – redpoll.
Few days ago black birds arrived.
And the big jays have become more courageous after mainly eating other bird’s scraps from the snow.
So exciting!

Let me ask you:
What comfortable happy places do you have?
What is your relationship like with your bed?

What are ”small big” joys during your day?
How could you increase them?
What fun stuff are you going to do next?

Love,
Tuulia (& Pete) ❤️
